Newsletter Topics: How to Identify Phishing with Actual Email Examples

👀 Today’s Focus: In last week’s newsletter (Don't be the bait: Scammers are Phishing!), we explained what phishing is and provided an example. In today’s edition, we delve into additional email phishing examples.

Example #1 - Product Invoice with Attachment

Example #2 - Product Invoice with Call to Action

Example #3 - Product Shipping

🚨 Compare the fake DHL email above to the real one below. Notice the subtle differences that help you distinguish the fake from the authentic email.

Example #4 - Real Product Shipping

😎 Grandkid Tip of the Day:  To identify phishing emails, stay alert to these red flags:

  1. The Sender:

    • The sender's email is generic, such as @gmail.com, @hotmail.com, etc.

    • The sender's email does not match the company providing the service, such as @mail.x.miahart.org vs @dhl.com for a DHL email.

  2. Generic Message:

    • Generic greetings, such as “Hi Customer”, “Hi Client”, “Hi Email Address”

    • Vague email with a lack of information.

  3. Sense of urgency that entices you to take action

  4. Suspicious attachments or links
